In Le Rêve a mysterious form appearing in the upper center is the only solid point in the entire painting. As a compositional device this form functions much like the sun in La Lumière .

Here the artist has taken the influence of stained glass to its most abstract form. Strong, bold flat areas of color are separated by thick black lines to create patterns that somehow indicate the presence of figures.

Lahner created a number of abstract paintings whose subjects are difficult to identify. This painting is titled Composition and was painted about 1960.

Formes Et Couleurs
Many artists of his period made the trek to the South of France to visit Matisse. Matisse's influence is evident in Formes et couleurs.
