Emile Lahner was a very prolific artist. This is seen not only in the large body of his oil paintings that exist today, but can also be seen in the extensive collection of his works on paper. Some of his works on paper that are in the Sterling Payot collection are carefully finished works; others are stepping off points into one of his oil paintings; others are early attempts at a framework for an oil; and some are just whimsical and spontaneous sketches that must have flowed from his pens and brushes at an extraordinary pace.
Included in the collection of works on paper are pen and ink drawings, watercolors, gouache, oil pastels, block prints, etchings and lithographs.
